The Weston girls lacrosse team solidified its status as Class S favorites Monday with a 14-8 home win over Trumbull.
Weston is the defending Class S champions and grabbed a quality win over a vastly-improved Trumbull program. The Trojans led the whole way, and the game wasn’t as close as the score would indicate.
Senior captain goalie Carolyn Figliola was strong in net for Weston with 16 saves. Sophomore Lindsay Koch led the offense with five goals. Senior captain Catie Ledwick, classmate Nicole DeCanio, junior Frances Holmes and sophomore Stephanie Thomson each had two goals and freshman Alexa Werner had a goal.
Ledwick was the top playmaker with four assists. Holmes was also a playmaker with three assists.
Werner was dominant in giving the Trojans possession with four draw controls.
Leading Weston’s defense were senior Maggie Maretz, juniors Grace Mattison, Alex Fontaine and Stephanie Buffa and sophomores Dana Mitchell and Caitlyn Coates.
The Trojans’ lead peaked at 11, 14-3, before they gave some of their backups playing time.
Trumbull scored five goals when the outcome was no longer in doubt. Senior captain Lisa Pulie and junior Carly Goroff led the Eagles with three goals each.
