Recent Greenwich High School graduate Graham Savio has made a verbal commitment to play lacrosse at Loyola University, Joe Lombardi of MSG Varsity and Laxlessons.com disclosed Monday. An All-American, Savio excelled as a faceoff specialist for the Cardinals, who advanced to the FCIAC semifinals and CIAC Class L quarterfinals.

After finishing his junior season strong, Savio enjoyed a standout senior year for Greenwich this spring, garnering the attention of numerous Division I programs. I covered the Greenwich boys lacrosse team a lot this year and witnessed Savio dominate at the faceoff X practically each game I saw. One of Savio’s best games of the season came against Darien when he won 14 of 18 faceoffs in the Cardinals’ 8-6 win. There were of course, many more games of note. He controlled the action at the faceoff X in the team’s win vs. Wilton early in the season and was a force in the team’s tough 6-5 loss to Staples in the Class L quarterfinals, giving the Cardinals possession throughout the game. Savio will join a Loyola team that finished 11-5 this season and qualified for the NCAA Tournament, where it lost to Duke.
