Ludlowe beats Staples

by:

Fairfield Ludlowe junior righty Aliza Guerrero was masterful on the mound Monday (April 16) in a 6-4 home win over Staples.

Guerrero retired 13 straight batters after giving up a leadoff walk in the second inning to close the door on Staples. She had seven strikeouts in that span, three looking, in taking advantage of the low strike zone.

Overall, Guerrero surrendered five hits, walked four, hit a batter and struck out 11.

Falcon senior Maggie Lapolla hit a two-run single in the first inning and finished the game with two hits. Sophomore Reagan Walker hit a two-run single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth.

The first inning has been a plague for the Wreckers and this game was no exception. Ludlowe took advantage of three walks and scored four in the bottom of the first.

Staples junior righty Morgan DiDonato settled down after the inning.

Junior Shannon Connors broke the hitting drought for the Wreckers in the sixth inning with a single to left.

After falling behind 6-1, Staples scored three runs in the seventh inning with two outs. Junior Nikki Bukovsky hit a two-run single to center and Connors had an RBI single to center.

Sophomore Emma Moskovitz had an RBI double for Staples in the first inning. However, Guerrero struck out Moskovitz – who was the potential go-ahead run – looking – to end the game with runners on first and second.
