Both teams came into the game without a win, Darien 0-2 and Westhill 0-1-1 and it was the Vikings that notched their first victory 4-1 over the Blue Wave.

The Vikings got two goals in the final 30 seconds of the first half to take the lead and take the wind out of Darien’s sails.

Filosmar Cordeiro scored both first half goals and showed flashes of his brilliant speed all afternoon.

Westhill keeeper Eddy Richardson was solid in goal as was his counterpart Liam Rischman of Darien, who kept it close in the second half despite facing a barrage of tough shots.

  • Westhill is a middle of the pack team right now but has enough raw talent to make a run at a FCIAC playoff spot if they play together.

Darien has some talented players but seemed very inexperienced, especially allowing the last goal of the first half with 6 seconds to play.

  • One of the funniest things I ever heard a trainer say was today when the Vikings’ trainer told a Darien player his hamstrings were (garbage), she used a different word, because they lacked the flexibility necessary for soccer players. I  did not catch her name but she seemed like a no nonsense type, a good quality in sports trainers.
