Sophomore forward Junior Dorsinvail scored in the 79th minute to help Harding force a 1-1 draw with Bassick on Wednesday at Hedges Field.
The Lions — now 1-10-2 on the season — got a goal from Cristian Cruz in the 47th minute to go ahead 1-0.
Bassick senior goalkeeper Dhanraj Mattra stymied Harding’s attack for most of the match, recording six saves. Bassick coach Saleh Hasaif praised Mattra afterward.
“He was hurt for a couple games, but when he’s healthy, he’s got to be one of the best (goalkeepers) in the state and one of the best in the FCIAC,” Hasaif said. “Everybody that sees him, they say, ‘He’s an unbelievable goalkeeper.’ I’m very proud of him.”
Harding snapped a four-match losing streak to move to 3-8-1 overall. The Presidents have struggled since a pair of surprising victories to open the season — 1-0 over Westhill and 3-2 over Staples. But the Presidents’ coach, Anthony Bonaventura, credited his team for not getting discouraged during the recent skid.
“We just had some bad breaks, some misplays, but overall it’s been a pretty successful season for Harding soccer,” Bonaventura said.
