No. 6 Westhill made the most of their opportunities, beating No. 3 Darien 3-1 in the FCIAC quarterfinals.

The Vikings move onto the semifinals Monday at Norwalk High against No. 2 Wilton. The Vikings have never been to the FCIAC finals.

Jess Laszlo scored three goals and the Vikings withstood a serious attack by the Blue Wave in the second half.

Vikings goalie Zhenna Stewart made 10 saves, a few of which were very tough, and sweeper Heidi Druehl was on point all game.

  • Brisk fall day and a pretty good turnout at Darien. I like the tiered style of the fields in the oval with little hills in between each so people can sit. Something about people sitting on a hill watching soccer is very New England.
  • Difference in the game, ultimately, was that Westhill has several players that are very good at finishing when in scoring position in Laszlo, Chelsea Domond and Rachel Benz and in the playoffs that is huge.
