The Seattle Seahawks came out in the second half with an apparent new energy on defense, and linebacker Bobby Wagner punctuated it with a interception in the third quarter of Super Bowl XLIX.

As the Patriots drove downfield after falling behind for the first time in the contest, New England quarterback Tom Brady dropped back from his own 38-yard line and tried to sneak a third-down pass into tight end Rob Gronkowski. But Wagner stepped in front of the pass and took it the other way, returning it for 6 yards and giving the ball back to his Seahawks offense.

The turnover set up Russell Wilson’s touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin, putting Seattle up 24-14 in the third quarter.

On the interception play, Seattle defensive end Cliff Avril went down and was slow to get up after the whistle. He was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion, and his return was questionable, according to the Seahawks.

Update: The Seahawks announced in the fourth quarter that Avril would not return.
