All four surviving members of the Grateful Dead — with their solo projects — will join Primus, the Avett Brothers (right), Zappa Plays Zappa, Sound Tribe Sector 9 and a slate of reggae, roots rock and jam bands at the 17th annual Gathering of the Vibes, taking place July 19-22 at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.
Dead bassist Phil Lesh, joined by a bevy of musicians, headlines the festival; Weir (above) performs alongside Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers and Branford Marsalis; and Dead drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzman take the stage with their bands — The Mickey Hart Band and 7 Walkers, respectively.
“Having all of the surviving members of the band with us is an honor and a privilege,” Ken Hays, Vibes founder and owner, told the Connecticut Post Monday. “Having Bob Weir with Bruce Hornsby’s band and special guest Branford Marsalis brings a diversity that I think people are going to enjoy.”
Other performers include Yonder Mountain String Band, the Greyboy Allstars, Steel Pulse and Dark Star Orchestra, along with a bevy of top tier Connecticut groups, including Deep Banana Blackout, Mates of State, Cosmic Jibaros, Max Creek and Kung Fu.
