Fans throng McLevy Green for Downtown Thursdays kick off

Connecticut bands The Stepkids and Echo & Drake played to an ebullient crowd at McLevy Green last week as the City of Bridgeport kicked off its Downtown Thursdays summer concert series.

Under gray skies that threatened rain, The Stepkids, of Bridgeport, and Echo & Drake, of Hartford, performed songs from their 2011 debut albums, along with several new songs.

Fans gulped down beers and danced as The Stepkids capped off their hour-long set, performing “Cup Half Full.” It was perfect timing: raindrops plummeted the plaza just as drummer Tim Walsh, guitarist Jeff Gitelman and bassist Dan Edinberg wrapped up an end-of-song breakdown. Fans cheered wildly before running for cover at nearby bars. (Photos/Ben Henson)

Echo & Drake, who won acclaim last year for their debut LP, “Sundrenched Elsewhere,” opened the show.
