Fairfield singer and songwriter Kristen Graves will perform Thursday, June 21, beginning at 8:30 p.m., at Two Boots, 281 Fairfield Ave, Bridgeport, as part of a CD release event for her seventh album, “Slow Down.”
Performing with Graves will be fellow local musicians Glenn Roth and Brian Dolzani. The concert kicks off the release of this five-song EP, as well as her fifth national summer tour. As part of her 35-show journey, she will teach a free five-week guitar children’s camp on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota.
Graves describes herself as “an energetic Sarah McLachlan, or Tracy Chapman with a pop edge,” on her website (you can see her covering John Lennon’s “Imagine” in the video above.). She has written and performed her own work since 2000, and has recorded four full-length albums, a Christmas album and a three-song EP.
Following the Two Boots performance, she heads to the Crimson Frog Coffeehouse in Camp Hill, Penn., and then off to Wisconsin.

LOCAL FAIRFIELD SINGER/SONGWRITER TO RELEASE 7TH ALBUM AT TWO BOOTS, JUNE 21
Originally from Green Bay, WI, Kristen began Classical piano lessons (and learned to throw a football!) at age 6, studying and developing her talent until she began to write her own music at 18. Picking up the guitar during college, Kristen wrote, recorded and produced two albums, launching a solo career by the time she graduated in 2004. (From St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN.) At that same time, Kristen began volunteering and traveling to an orphanage in Oaxaca, Mexico, where she met fellow volunteer, Bryan Nurnberger. Soon after, Bryan founded Simply Smiles (www.simplysmiles.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing bright futures for impoverished children. The couple has been working together combining arts and philanthropy ever since.
