After a four-year tenure in which she led the Stamford Center for the Arts from bankruptcy to solvency, Elissa O. Getto is set to resign as executive director of the nonprofit organization at the end of the year, according to a statement released Wednesday.

Getto, of Stamford, is also credited with reinstating education programs, expanding the SCA staff from three to 11 full-time employees and securing a substantial donation from Harman Industries for a new sound system at the 1,500-seat Palace Theatre.

“I am so proud to have been a part of the successful rebirth of Stamford Center for the Arts,” said Getto, who was named to her current post in July 2009. “I look forward to returning to the consulting world where I can hopefully help other nonprofits find their way back to financial solvency.”

In a statement, SCA Board chairman Michael L. Widland praised Getto for her “strong and wise leadership over the last four years through some very difficult times.”

Before joining the SCA, Getto was the president and chief executive officer of the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. and the executive director and CEO of Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Fla.

Stratford’s Tony Dovolani wins ‘Dancing with the Stars’

A Stratford dancer has leaped to victory in America’s hottest TV dance competition.

Tony Dovolani and his partner, Melissa Rycroft (right), took home the mirror ball trophy on the All-Star season of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” on Tuesday night, the team’s second try.

Dovolani, a professional ballroom dancer who co-owns Dance with Me in Stamford, had paired with Rycroft, once a finalist on “The Bachelor” and a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader in 2009, when they finished third.

This season, “Team Melissa” beat former Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson and her partner, Derek Hough, in the finale, doing the samba to the song “Life is a Highway.” Johnson and Hough were the favorites to to win, but a bad call on Derek’s part left the couple short points in the finals.

Dovolani owns Dance With Me with Petra Murgatroyd, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Valentin Chmerkovskiy, who took the runner-up spot on Tuesday night’s show with his partner, Kelly Monaco. It is the fourth dance studio the three business partners have opened in the Tri-state area since 2005 (including locations in Ridgefield, New York City and Long Island).
