Kung Fu, the Bridgeport funk/fusion quintet led by guitarist Tim Palmieri, is playing Santa again this year.
The band hosts their annual Toys for Tots Holiday Spectacular at Toad’s Place in New Haven on Saturday, Dec.22 at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 with a donation of a new, unwrapped toy (regular admission is $20 the day of the show, $15 in advance). For tickets, go online.
The show also will benefit 24 Hour Music Project, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness and resources to combat domestic violence.
Last year, Kung Fu’s holiday spectacular raised more than $3,000 in toys, which were hand delivered by the band on Christmas Eve to Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. This year, the band hopes to double the take and distribute toys to Bridgeport and Hartford counties as well.
“This is a night to celebrate and give back,” Palmieri said. “It’s incredible, really. We have the time of our lives during the show and then when you think it can’t get any better, we get to play Santa to children who really need something to smile about.”
