Out and about: Things to see and places to be this weekend

Greenwich’s Rob Mathes and his talented musical friends will be bringing the sounds and sentiments of Christmas to the stage in Purchase, N.Y. this weekend. In this annual tradition (above, see a previous performance), Mathes will bring a mix of his original works, some unique arrangements and a song or two from his new album to those gathered in the audience. But his is not the only musical event taking place during this weekend before the holiday.

In Danbury and the surrounding areas, a number of musicians are coming together to mark the tragic events that took place in Newtown last week.

Christine Pedi is coming to Bridgeport on Saturday. Colt Six will be performing in West Redding.

There is plenty of art to see, from the Fairfield County Arts Association exhibition in Fairfield, to the ceramics of artist Phyllis Savage in Danbury. The work of artist Joseph Farris is on display in Bethel. The Florence Griswold Museum will celebrate the holidays with its “Magic of Christmas” tree and several activities.

The Stamford Museum and Nature Center, along with Stepping Stones Museum for Children will be providing activities throughout the weekend for all ages. In fact, there are activities across the state from a variety of museums.

Hartford Stage’s “Christmas Carol” is playing this weekend. And, “Driving Miss Daisy” comes to West Hartford. And, comic Lenny Marcus is setting up shop in at Foxwoods.

Until next time …
