Five of Connecticut’s most beloved singer/songwriters are getting together for a quintuple-bill at Acoustic Cafe in Bridgeport on Saturday, Jan. 19.
The concert, Das Musicians, will feature the five nominees from CT.com’s Grand Band Slam 2012 Singer/Songwriter category: Jennifer Hill, John Torres, Kate Callahan, Hannah Fair and Becky Kessler (above).
Tickets for the 21 and over concert are $5.
Here’s a closer look at these five Connecticut crooners:
Becky Kessler — Awarded Best Singer/Songwriter at the 2012 Connecticut Music Awards, Kessler, of Roxbury, is petite and unassuming with a deep, booming voice and a disarming stage presence.
John Torres — The Bridgeport native (and one half of the duo Oh, Cassius!) delivers soul-stirring melodies and lyrics that invoke refreshing innocence one moment and sober reflection the next.
Kate Callahan — The Hartford singer/guitarist writes robust folk/rock tunes that are autobiographical, yet universal. She grew up listening to Joni Mitchell and Natalie Merchant.
Hannah Fair — In a voice that is at once quiet and soothing, raw and earthy, the New Haven-based singer plays misty acoustic folk songs that invoke nostalgic moments.
Jennifer Hill — Often joined by her band (a unit that goes by Jennifer Hill and Co.), the Hartford-based singer/songwriter plays brooding, soulful, piano-driven indie rock in the vein of Fiona Apple.
