Bridgeport’s The Stepkids tapped for Bonnaroo music festival

Bridgeport’s own The Stepkids have been tapped to play Bonnaroo this year, according to a live webcast hosted by Weird “Al” Yankovic.

This is the first year in which the trio — drummer Tim Walsh, guitarist Jeff Gitelman and bassist Dan Edinberg — will appear at the annual four-day music festival, to be held June 13-16 in Manchester, Tenn.

“It feels amazing to be recognized for our live performance by such an important American music festival,” Gitelman said in an email. “We’re looking forward to showcasing what we do amongst the great names of modern music and we’re thankful for the opportunity.”

The Stepkids will join an eclectic lineup of musicians at the event, including Paul McCartney, Björk, Animal Collective, Wilco, Beach House, R. Kelly, Wu-Tang Clan, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Billy Idol, The National, ZZ Top and more.

After spending most of 2012 touring with Kimbra, Mayer Hawthorne & The County, and Mates of State, the band is readying the release of their upcoming second album, due out in mid-June 2013.
