Out and about: Things to see and places to be this weekend

We got a little taste of spring (and even summer!) weather this week, and barring today’s drizzly gloom, the sunshine should continue throughout the weekend.

So, no need to stay cooped up indoors — get out there and enjoy some of the weekend’s diversions, including concerts, plays, art exhibitions and more.

Hear genre-defying cellist Matt Haimovitz (above) perform a mix of music — everything from Bach to the Beatles — at Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan on Sunday, April 14 at 4 p.m. In addition, several groups — Boplicity, Brett Boles, Mary Beth Sippin and the Goldrush Band, Smokebomb Mondays, the Newtown High School Jazz Ensemble and the Newtown High School Singers — will perform for a good cause at Random Acts of Music, a benefit concert for the Healing Newtown Project, on Friday, April 12, at Edmond Town Hall.

Street art lovers (and art lovers in general) can check out the work of artist John Matos at Fairfield’s Southport Village center on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. And, to get people ready for the outdoors (finally!), the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport is offering “Adventure Science,” a know-before-you-go exhibit that will answer questions about zip lines and tree-top aerial obstacle courses. It is on view all this weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Until next time…
