The Gathering of the Vibes promised a “huge artist addition” back in May. And, this week, organizers finally revealed the identity of said mystery band.
Gov’t Mule — the four-piece southern rock band led by guitarist Warren Haynes — will return to the four-day festival on Saturday, July 27.
The performance marks the group’s fifth time performing at the Vibes.
“I love playing the Vibes,” said Haynes, the only musician to have been a member of both the Allman Brothers Band and the Grateful Dead. “Vibes is one of the early festivals built around the ‘jam band’ community. As we are half jam band (and half rock and roll band), it’s important to us to stay connected with all the roots as they grow.”
Gov’t Mule, who last took the stage at the festival in 2003, will join a jam-packed bill that includes Phil Lesh & Friends (two nights), The Black Crowes, The Roots, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Tedeschi Trucks Band, John Butler Trio, The Funky Meters, John Scoffield, Fishbone, as well as DJ sets by James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) and Rob Garza (Thievery Corporation).
