Stamford dance duo join other champions in Westchester show

If you missed them perform last year in Bridgeport, you can see why Shane and Shannon Jensen are the reigning U.S. Theater Arts Champions Shane when they join six couples at the Ballroom Dancesport Extravaganza at Westchester Broadway Theatre on Tuesday.

The husband-and-wife duo, which recently relocated to Stamford from Utah, are teachers at the Metropolitan Dance Center in Stamford.

The two knew early on that they wanted to compete professionally, said Shannon Jensen during an interview last year. Beginning at about 13 years old, they both began competing separately. But it wasn’t until they both began attending Utah’s Brigham Young University, and found themselves on the same dance team, that they began working together. They graduated from the university in spring 2012.

The Jensens, who also have earned silver medals and attained finalist status in many competitions around the world, will join latin champions and 2012 World Showdance Championship bronze medalists Delyan Terziev and Boriana Deltcheva, “Dancing with the Stars” alum Anya Demidova and her partner Andrew Begunov, well-known Argentine tango team Jorge Torres and Maria Blanco, the young stars Patryk Ploszaj and Anna Kacmarski who gained popular attention with their performanes on TV’s “America’s Got Talent” and Latin champions Dmitri and Svetlana Ostashkin.

The evening will showcase nearly every phase of ballroom dancing in two 50-minute acts. Tickets are $80 per person (plus tax) and include a choice of dinner entrees. Doors open and dinner begins at 6 p.m. Showtime is 8 p.m. Purchase tickets here or call 914-592-2222.
