Katherine Heigl, a longtime New Canaan resident, recently began filming for the new Anthony Burns-directed comedy/drama, “North of Hell.”

Heigl, 34, recently wrapped up shooting in New Orleans, where she was joined by co-stars Patrick Wilson, Jordana Brewster, Kevin McKidd and Bryce Johnson.

The story revolves around a well-to-do businessman (Wilson), who is used to having things his own way, but appears to be helpless at the hands of his domineering wife (Heigl).

“I play a very dark person, which is out of my wheelhouse,” Heigl said on her website.

Heigl is also lending her voice to the upcoming animated film, “The Nut Job.”

“The Nut Job” will hit theaters in January. A release date for “North of Hell” is yet to be announced.
