ChowdaFest still on a quest to find 2014 competitors

Earlier this month, we brought you news of a yummy contest taking place at restaurants far and wide that will run through Thanksgiving.

ChowdaQuest will narrow down the participants for next year’s Chowdafest, which can only accommodate 28 restaurants. The culinary competition, which lets the public decide the top soups in four categories, will be held for a second year at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport on Feb. 2, 2014.

According to the event’s founder and director, Jim Keenan, the competition has resulted in an opportunity for soup fans to sample some of the best at restaurants – more than 70 – from Hartford to Westport, and Mystic to Greenwich. He recently explained the competition in a recent news release:

The competition is called ChowdaQuest and basically restaurants are offering a unique sampling of two, three or fours soups on their specials menu and asking their patrons to use their smart phone to vote on which soup or chowder they like best. The soup samplers have been a big hit with patrons and a nice menu addition for the restaurants.

So far, The Spread (Norwalk), Bistro 7 (Wilton), Parallel Post (Trumbull), Post 154 (Westport) and Guvnor’s (Norwalk) are leading among voters, along with Chowdafest stalwarts The Ginger Man (Norwalk/Greenwich) and the Restaurant at Rowayton.

Keenan offered a breakdown of restaurants who are vying for votes. There are 12 in Westport; 1o in Norwalk; four each in Darien, Milford, Stamford, Mystic, New Haven and Fairfield; as well as many others. With about a month left to vote, Keenan is hopeful this year’s event will feature a good mix of newcomers and old favorites.
