Mike Massimino made history last month when he became the first person to tweet from space.
Mike Massimino is the first person to tweet from outside of this world.
He posted, ”From orbit: Launch was awesome!! I am feeling great, working hard, & enjoying the magnificent views, the adventure of a lifetime has begun!”
In all, Astro_Mike, as he is known on the micro-blogging site, the NASA astronaut tweeted 34 times about everything from spacewalks to eating chocolate.
“From orbit: The Earth is so beautiful, it is like looking into paradise,” he wrote at May 19.
Massimino’s thoughts got me wondering – what other historic moments and thoughts would have been captured on Twitter were it around longer?
TIME today featured a Web site that made some speculations.
Historical Tweets showcases dozens of amusing thoughts. Among them:
Alexander the Great:
“Accomplishments just earned me title ‘Alexander the Good.’ Must work harder.”
Abraham Lincoln:
“anyone got a more creative way of saying ’87 years?”
Gutenberg:
“Finally finished invention. Disappointed to learn that no one can read.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.:
“Bought a sleep journal. I keep having dreams but forget to write them down.”
And in case those were not enough to wet your appetite, TIME came up with a few of their own:
John Hancock:
“Why did everyone write so small?? Now I look like a jerk.”
Al Capone:
“April 15 AGAIN?!?!”
Sir Walter Raleigh:
“@Roanoke Hey, where’d everybody go?”
And my personal favorite:
Buzz Aldrin:
“@NeilArmstrong: you go first”
