Cyber Command code cracked

United States Cyber Command logoTech Talk recently reported on Wired magazine’s challenge to crack the code in the United States Cyber Command’s logo.

The technology magazine reported that a reader was able to break the 32 character code embedded within the highly secretive agency in a matter of hours.

You could learn what 9ec4c12949a4f31474f299058ce2b22a translated to here – and read some creative guesses, too.

Tech Talk applauds the United States Cyber Command for joining forces with Wired and the general public to find a fun and creative way to interact. It would be nice if other government agencies followed Cyber Command’s lead.

Zombies are invading Newsweek

Articles about zombies have replaced Newsweek's traditional offerings

Articles about zombies have replaced Newsweek's traditional offerings.

Newsweek has been invaded by an army of zombies — or more likely geeks.

Either way, if you punch in a special code, the site’s content will replaced by the undead — as shared with Tech Talk by Hearst Connecticut copy editor Trudi Shaffer.

Check it out before it’s too late.

  1. Go to newsweek.com.
  2. Punch in the Konami code, or: Up
  3. Up
  4. Down
  5. Down
  6. Left
  7. Right
  8. Left
  9. Right
  10. B
  11. A
  12. Enter

And then watch out. Newsweek will never be the same again.

Learn more about the Konami code and other cool things it could unlock in the Tech Talk archives.

Update: Newsweek, which did not seem to know about the Easter egg until it went viral, has pulled the plug on the popular feature early Tuesday.

In a statement posted on several websites, including geek.com, a spokesperson said: “Now that we’ve all had a laugh, we will be removing it.”

Google wishes you a happy new year in a colorful way

happynewyearGoogle users have come to expect the search engine giant to ring in various dates of interest by decking out its homepage icon with appropriate garb.

However, this year, in addition to launching a festive icon, Google has created an Easter egg.

To admire Google’s fireworks, simply hit the “I’m feeling lucky” button on Google.com without typing anything into the search box.

And have fun.  But hurry, it won’t be around for much longer.

And if you enjoyed this one, check out this previous Tech Talk postabout cracking Facebook, well kinda.

And happy 2010!
