Unlike Action On Death Row at Northern Correctional Institution, The End Comes Swiftly For Capital-Punishment Repeal Bill

About 24 hours after receiving the bill from the Secretary of the State, Gov. M. Jodi Rell has vetoed the controversial repeal of capital punishment in Connecticut. This is a veto message that will be picked over for weeks, but it’s clear that this year, with this governor, there’s not enough support for either repeal or override.
Proponents of the repeal were surprised that it passed both the House and Senate this year and since it’s unlikely that there will be an execution of one of the 10 killers on death row within the next 10 years, there’s a good chance that the state’s capital-punishment law will end before the next inmate receives a $325,000 lethal injection.
