Breakthrough in UConn Stabbing Case! Maybe Yes, Maybe No.

What’s up with the State Police? They sent out a news advisory this morning for a 10 o’clock news conference at the University of Connecticut to make a “major announcement” into the investigation into the stabbing death of Jasper Howard, the UConn football star who was knifed outside the Student Union early on October 18. The release says police and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin Kane would say the probe “has moved to the next level.”

A half hour later, the same release was faxed over, with a thick marker over the details saying “Sent out in error will advise with corrected information if appropriate.” Police of all stripes love to control the flow of information, especially on something as high profile as Jazz’s murder. So, what does it mean? To what does “if appropriate” parse down? Do they have a suspect in custody? Let’s hope.
