Desperate to keep the job that he was looking to shuck in that failed attempt to win the Democratic Presidential nomination in 2008, U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd blatantly used Vice President Joe Biden’s presence in Fairfield yesterday as a re-election event before an overshwlemingly Democratic crowd at the O&G Industries field office near Exit 46 on the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield.
One Republican who found himself invited to the event, but only after a pro-active phone call or two, was state Rep. Tony Hwang, R-Trumbull, who represents the portion of Fairfield in which the Biden event was held.
“It physically sits in my district and I’m the last to know about this,” Hwang, dressed in a dark business suit, said in an interview on the sun-blasted parking lot. “I was on the list, but I was told only after I asked.”
Asked to comment on the political overtones of the event 13 months from the big mid-term congressional elections and the fight for Dodd’s career, Hwang smiled. “How was your summer?” he replied, the sun glaring off his sunglasses.
