Got A Bright Idea, Like Hang The Lawmakers? Come to the LOB Monday

The Commission on Enhancing Agency Outcomes (CEAO), which is co-chaired by Sen. Gayle Slossberg, D-Milford, has scheduled a public  hearing for Monday in the Legislative Office Building, starting at 10. They’re looking for ways to streamline government and make it more efficient, with an eye toward saving big buck$. The panel will accept suggestions, as well as comments on the preliminary list of changes they released on November 30.

  1. “Hang the lawmakers”? Did you really just write that, Mr. Dixon? “Hang the lawmakers”? I know that you hold elected officials of the Constitution State in low regard. But to suggest violence against elected officials is not only disgusting, it’s disgraceful. You are a journalist, after all, and violence against journalists results in many dead journalists every year. Scores died covering the war in Iraq. How in the world can you be so calous and deaf that you would blithely suggest that hanging elected officials would be a good idea?

Do not try to defend yourself by saying that it was only a joke. The political reporter for the state of Connecticut for Hearst Newspapers does not make jokes like that. It’s unprofessional, in horrible taste, and just a miserable thing to write.

In short, Mr. Dixon, you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself.

  2. Hi Ken, Regarding the minor flack you’re receiving on MLN about the caption of this blog entry, people need to lighten up. I think most of my colleagues can handle this sarcasm. I do think the current 2-3% budget shortfall is manageable and I wish the Governor would come up with a plan to reorganize public service delivery through state agencies, municipalities, boards of education and non-profits instead of rather simplistic, harmful and often pennywise & poundfoolish cuts. But it is an absolutely fair criticism that the General Assembly needs to respond to this lack of leadership with its own initiative and not just have more meetings/working groups and “Just Say NO to Rell’s Cuts” events.

  3. Of course, the deeply committed disciples of Ghandi at My Left Nutmeg don’t seem to have any problem at all with the commenter in the next post (on Joe Lieberman, their favorite bete noire) who calls for Connecticut’s junior senator to be dragged from his office, tarred and feathered for his opposition to “free” health care. Comments, to date, condemning this proposed act of violence: ZERO.

    Hypocrisy, thy name is liberalism.
