Long Morning’s Journey Into Late Afternoon For The Judiciary Committee. What Happened to the Judicial Wannabes?

The Blogster’s not exactly sure, pending further information from the co-chairmen of the Judiciary Committee, but nine nominess for Superior Court judge may have been shot down a few minutes ago, when the committee meeting was suspended in advance of the imminent House session. The deadline to confirm the nine nominees was supposedly today. So there’s either going to be no report out of committee or a unfavorable report, the way things look. They could always be resubmitted after the session, but it’s getting embarrassing. Then there’s the Black and Puerto Rican caucus, which has been on a low simmer, since all nine  nominees are white. “The message has to be that the process is flawed,” said Rep. Toni Walker, D-New Haven, a committee member. The whole issue is magnified because Senate President Pro Tempore Don Williams said last week that he didn’t want to confirm new judges – and their $2.5 million in annual salary and benefits – without an overall budget adjustment for the fiscal year that starts July 1, with its $700-million deficit.
