Connecticut Politics Pauses and Ponders Tom Marsh’s Gubernatorial Running Mate. Is it a Figure From the Glory that was Rome?

Chester Selectman Tom Marsh is the long-shot former-Republican-and-now-Independent candidate for governor. He issued this release this morning, though, in anticipation of someone actually driving out to Waterbury to cover the event.

“Chester, Connecticut — June 14, 2010 — Independent Party gubernatorial candidate Tom Marsh will be holding a press conference at the WOW NRZ Community Learning Center, 308 Walnut Street, Waterbury, at 3:00pm on Monday, June 14th to formally announce Waterbury Board of Alderman Minority Leader, Cicero Booker as his choice for Lt. Governor.

Marsh states, “Cicero’s respected record of leadership, community involvement, and working knowledge of urban issues brings a strength to the Independent Party ticket that is unmatched by the other contenders in the race. Cicero has been a tireless advocate for fairness and common sense solutions in governance.

Marsh continues, “Cicero and I have taken different paths through life to get to where we stand today, paths that when combined provide a wealth of experience and understanding of the issues facing the residents of Connecticut. We have lived and continue to live with the results of a dysfunctional government. We see the ramifications that distracted policy and ineffective leadership has had on the rural, urban and business communities of our state. That experience and practical knowledge will be critical as we take on the challenges ahead.

Cicero Booker has a long and distinguished record of service to his community and the State of Connecticut. In addition to serving as Minority Leader on the Waterbury Board of Alderman, Cicero served proudly for 35 years as a member of the Waterbury Police Department, retiring in 1995 with the rank of Lieutenant.

Cicero’s list of civic involvement is equally impressive, serving as a branch board member on the Connecticut State Conference of the NAACP, and past President of the Waterbury Branch of the NAACP. Cicero has also served as the Connecticut Representative for the ACLU National Board of Directors, and as a member of the Connecticut Board of Pardons and Parole. Cicero currently works for Waterbury Adult Education as an English as a second language instructor.

The Independent Party is committed to providing all Connecticut residents an alternative political organization dedicated to ensuring open, honest government, with realistic objectives. We welcome Connecticut residents to become active members and participate in a movement to bring non-partisan problem-solving to government; to promote responsible and sustainable governmental policies; to fight corruption; and to promote ballot access for citizens who want to be public servants.

The Independent Party intends to present a full slate for state-wide offices as well as a significant number of candidates in legislative races. “
