Is Gov’s Race For Boy Scouts or Not? And What Did the Q Poll Do With Tom Marsh?

The Quinnipiac Poll being perused by insomniacs throughout the state over their third cup of coffee is good news for Dannel Malloy, with his 9-point edge and about six weeks left in the race. But the Blogster wants to make fun of the Boy Scout question. On the issue of whether the  candidates are  “honesty and trustworthy,” Malloy got an overall 58 percent to Foley’s 51 percent. Among Republicans Foley gets 69 percent, with Democrats low-balling him at 37 percent and the unaffiliated, 51 percent. Malloy gets an overall 58 percent, with 39 percent from Republicans, 72 percent from Democrats and 57 percent among the unaffiliated, whom the poll refers to as “independents,” in an apparent swipe at Chester First Selectman Tom Marsh, who, although he is on the November ballot as the petitioning “Independent Party” candidate, is not mentioned by name in the poll and only shows up as a minuscule 1 percent of voters who would cast ballots for “someone else” besides Foley and Malloy.

Nestled in the poll is the fact that Gov. Jodi Rell still retains a robust 58-percent approval rating. Malloy’s favorable rating overall is 46 percent and Foley’s is 34 percent.

On the issue of experience, Malloy gets 66 percent overall, with 50 percent of Republicans, 83 percent of Democrats and 61 percent of Independents saying he has the experience for the job. Foley gets 58 percent on the question, with 77 percent of Republicans, 36 percent of Democrats and 53 percent of the unaffiliated saying he has enough experience to be governor.
