Former multi-term selectman and state representative Carl Dickman, a good-natured Republican from Fairfield, who once described on the floor of the House of how he was so hooked on cigarettes that he was smoking while on the stretcher as EMTs were taking him to the hospital after a heart attack, died Sunday at age 84.
