Finance Committee approves revenue estimates, building a billion-dollar surplus into the two-year budget

The Finance Committee just voted 31-18 along party lines for the revenue estimates to help pay for the $40.2 billion budget that would take effect July 1. It includes a billion-dollar surplus built into the biennial budget, which will come before the Senate this afternoon for our long day’s journey into night.

“There couldn’t be better people to disagree with than the co-chairs,” said Sen. Andrew Roraback, R-Goshen, to Sen. Eileen Daily, D-Westbrook and Rep. Pat Widlitz, D-Guilford, the co-chairwoman, after the partisan steamroller ended their attempt to amend the estimates, including taxes like those on medical procedures and Internet sales.
