Rep. Bill Tong raises half a million buck$ toward U.S. $enate bid

State Rep. William Tong, D-Stamford, announced this morning that he has raised about $550,000 in the 53 days since he filed his U.S. Senate campaign committee. “I am grateful so many people believe in my campaign for the U.S. Senate, and have invested so much in so little time.  This proves I am going to have the resources to run an aggressive campaign and win this race,” said Tong. So he’s more than a 1/100th of the way toward the $50 million that Republican U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon spent losing her race last year to Dick Blumenthal.

Another Democratic Senate hopeful, U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy of the Fifth District, has scheduled an endorsement event for tomorrow at 10 a.m. in a Waterbury firehouse, with members of the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut. Susan Bysiewicz, the former secretary of the state, is also in the candidates’ mix.
