New (Democratic) mayor in Waterbury could mean that days are numbered for Rowland

Waterbury Mayor Mike Jarjura, a former Democrat who failed to win re-election this week as a a Republican, once called John Rowland, the Republican former felon whom Jarjura hired as economic-development chief, “the greatest governor in state history.” Democrat Neil O’Leary, the city’s former police chief who will take over for Jarjura after crushing him Tuesday night, will have to mull over this one. Asked what O’Leary should do, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy this morning replied: “It’s up for a new mayor to decide. I’ve never opined about John’s employment, Gov. Rowland’s employment. That is ultimately up for the leadership of that communicity to decide on. It is an unusual model that they have there, but it’s clearly up to the mayor and the council and they’ll make those decisions.”
