Derivatives trader-turned-housing specialist begins run for Fourth Congressional District nomination

STAMFORD — Chris Meek of Stamford, a 41-year-old former Goldman Sachs equity derivatives trader and founder of a non-profit helping homeowners avoid foreclosure, on Thursday became the third Republican to announce their candidacy for the Fourth Congressional District held by Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Himes.

“I am excited to launch my campaign for Congress and to begin a conversation with Connecticut’s voters about the important issues facing our community: creating local jobs, growing our economy, ending partisan gridlock in Washington, improving our schools, reining in the cost of healthcare, and securing America’s future,” Meek said in a statement. He joins Steve Obsitnik of Westport and  David Orner of Darien in the announced field of challengers vying for the party nomination next year.

“I have spent the last several years working to help those in our community who have suffered at the hands of irresponsible partisanship in Washington. With so many people out of work, home foreclosures on the rise and spending in Washington out of control, we need leaders in Washington willing to roll up their sleeves, bring people together and find solutions,” Meek said.
“I am proud to have helped so many in our community find solutions to finding work, avoiding foreclosure and getting their families back on the right track and know that going to Congress would give me the chance to help so many others,” said Meek, who has three children with his wife, Christine. In 2009 he founded START, a non-profit that has helped 250 people avoid  foreclosure. He also founded the non-profit Soldier Socks, which has sent 40,000 pounds of toiletries, tube sox and baby wipes to military personnel in the Middle East.
