Malloy in Washington Friday afternoon for White House meeting with Veep

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has a 5:15 appointment in Vice President Joe Biden’s West Wing office in the White House tomorrow, to talk about gun-control legislation. On Saturday, he will participate in the public-service efforts associated with President Obama’s inauguration, prior to speaking about education reform and other issues before the US Conference of Mayors.

“Sportsmen’s Caucus” leaves a lot unsaid.

About a dozen state senators and representatives just participated in the organizational meeting of the “Sportsmen’s Caucus.” This bipartisan group of mostly rural and suburban lawmakers, who as they introduced themselves spoke about gun ranges in their districts, is informal. But they may represent potential friction when legislative gun-control measures get drafted. No one mentioned “Newtown,” but Rep. Craig Miner, R-Litchfield and Rep. Linda Orange, who represents Colchester and Lebanon in eastern Connecticut, alluded to what’s coming down the pike.

“This can be as complicated as we want it to be and it can be as simple as we want it to be,” Miner said. “We all known that we’re reasonable people and we want to come up with reasonable solutions want to be part of the discussions,” Orange added. While not an actual committee, the caucus is likely to become the voice of hunters.
