Mr. Dixon- I’m writing to you today because I’ve been coming down to the Bridgeport area for almost 30 years (from Massachusetts) and always look forward to seeing your byline in the paper. My wife comes from Trumbull, and my father-in-law grew up in Bridgeport, so I get to see the paper whenever I’m down there. In addition to that, I’ve been able to listen to stories from my father-in-law about his older brother (Tom Wood) who passed away today (Sat.)at the age of 94. He worked for years at the Boy’s Club, coached sports, and was very involved with many Bridgeport families that utilized the Boy’s Club, finding many of them jobs. In the later years of his life, he cared for a wife that needed to be lifted in and out of a wheelchair, while providing housing whenever any of his children needed it. He was the oldest son of a big family and was thrust into place as a father when his own suddenly passed away at a young age. He was a quiet man that among other things, built his own house in Trumbull. In addition, I never saw him play, but I’ve been told he was an incredible soccer player. I only pass all of this along because I understand newspapers are always looking for local stories in their circulation area. He’s not the type that would seek the headlines, either. But this is an exceptional human being.
Keep up the good work!- klemer@comcast.net
