Gov Dan’s day: library groundbreaking, candy giveaway for hobgoblins at the Residence

There’s probably no truth to the rumor – which seems to be coming only from the Blogster – that Gov Dannel Malloy tonight will don a John Rowland mask for the onslaught of the short, costumed people at the Governor’s Residence. No point in scaring them with the image of an actual felon such as the convicted former governor. So from 5:30 until 6:30, or when the 1,200 full-size candy bars run out, Malloy, disguised as himself, and wife Cathy, whom the Blogster hopes has the wit to dress up, will greet hobgoblins and their fellows.

At 2, Malloy will join U.S. Rep. John Larson and East Hartford Mayor Marcia Leclerc for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new expansion to East Hartford’s Raymond Library.  “Light refreshments will be available to those that attend,” says the release from Malloy’s office. Those refreshments may be well-earned, after the speakers list that includes state Senator Gary LeBeau; Rep. Henry Genga; former mayor Rep Tim Larson; Rep Jason Rojas; Richard Kehoe, who is chair of the East Hartford Town Council; Linda J. Kelly, president, Hartford Foundation for Public Giving; Dawn La Valle, director, Division of Library Development, Connecticut State Library; and Frank Leone, vice president, Raymond Library Co. Board
