Hospital administrators get no love from Malloy’s budget chief

Ben Barnes, who as secretary of the Office of Policy and Management is the governor’s budget chief, told reporters yesterday why hospitals aren’t getting more money in Gov. Dannel P. malloy’s budget proposal.

Reporter A: “Did you look at doing anything for hospitals?…some have had layoffs…”

Barnes: “No.”

Reporter B: “Why not?”

Barnes: “I read the Office of Healthcare Access’s report on the financial condition of hospitals.

Reporter B: “And what conclusions did that lead…?”

Barnes: “That they are in better financial shape than the state of Connecticut.”
