Hovey wants traffic study for intersection of Rtes 111-25 in Trumbull

This from Rep. DebraLee Hovey, R-Monroe, a member of the legislative Transportation Committee:

“In response to numerous constituent concerns and complaints, State Representative DebraLee Hovey (R-112) formally requested an investigation of the traffic situation on Route 111 in Trumbull from Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner James Redeker.

After receiving constituent complaints Rep. Hovey researched the location and traffic patterns and became concerned about the location of egress from a recently erected commercial development near the intersection of Routes 111 and 25 in Trumbull.  Because many of her constituents travel these roads on a daily basis Rep. Hovey asked Commissioner Redeker for a formal investigation.

Recently, a commercial development was completed that egresses on to Route 111 approximately 500 yards from the intersection of Routes 111 and 25.

“I have researched the concerns and believe that the State must intervene to assure the safety of my constituents who use Route 111 to commute and want to avail themselves of the businesses on the route,” Rep. Hovey wrote in the letter.

This location has been the site of traffic congestion and there have been several accidents in that area Rep. Hovey continued, referring to the development that includes both Chips and Edge along with several smaller businesses.

High levels of traffic on Route 111 make it difficult for cars to safely go North (left) from the plaza as they must cross three lanes of fast traveling traffic.

“At the minimum a traffic and safety study needs to be conducted, this is a very dangerous situation and because it is a state road, it is incumbent on you to assure it is safe to travel,” Rep. Hovey wrote to the Commissioner.”
