Watch out for the moose!

What a way to go. Imagine one of those idiot drivers on Interstate-84. You know, one of those immortal young men who weave in an out of traffic at a high speed. Possibly a low-riding piece of junk, with an exhaust pipe as big an as anti-tank gun. How often do you fantasize about a fiery wreck up there about a half mile away? Well the Blogster does. So the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection today is warning that folks driving on I-84 in the Southington area should keep an eye out for a moose on the loose – one of an estimated 150 statewide, mostly living in the northeastern and northwestern corners – on nearby West Street, entering a swampy area.

“Moose near roadways pose a particular danger because once struck, they are more likely to collapse through a vehicle windshield due to their tall stance,” says the DEEP in an understatement. “They are also difficult to see when driving at night because of their dark color.” The Blogster doesn’t really want a moose kill, so we’re hoping the low-rider drives under the beast, or something.

The DEEP says that moose and deer vehicle collisions should be reported to local or state authorities, or DEEP Environmental Conservation Police Officers (860-424-3333), or on the agency’s website: http://www.ct.gov/deep/wildlife.
