Bill to help neglected graves and cemeteries passes P&D and heads to House

The legislative Planning and Development Committee just unanimously approved a bill that would create a separate fund to help towns and cities spruce up Connecticut’s neglected cemeteries and burial grounds.

The money would be funded from fees for death certificates collected by the state Department of Public Health, which collectegraved about $43,300 a year. If passed in the House and Senate and signed into law, the fund would take effect October 1 and total about $32,000 in the fiscal year starting July 1; and $43,300 in the following year, the first full year of the program.
