Thursday will be a day at the beach for Gov. Malloy, until he meets with US Transportation Secy in Hartford

The governor tomorrow will kick off the Independence Day weekend, not by fuming in a line of traffic  with the rest of us. But he’ll check out three New London County tourist attractions, including the Submarine Force Museum in Groton, Ocean Beach Park in New London, and lunch at the Sandbar Café, overlooking the Thames River.  The purpose is to underscore tourism’s $11.5 billion in annual economic activity, with 110,000 jobs. This day at the beach will prepare Malloy for a meeting in the state Capitol with U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx to talk about the state’s priorities “and the need for Congress to immediately address the Highway Trust Fund shortfall and pass a long-term reauthorization of the nation’s surface transportation program.” The meeting will be followed by a 3 p.m. news conference.
