Got plans for Saturday? How about joining a beach/park cleanup near you?

The non-profit Save the Sound is sponsoring 17 state events on Saturday as part of the International Coastal Cleanup. “Every piece of trash volunteers find will be tracked and included in an annual index of global marine debris to be released in 2015,” the group says, noting that last year, nearly 650,000 people picked up more than 12 million pounds of trash along 13,000 miles of coastline worldwide. In Connecticut, 1,554 volunteers cleaned nearly four-and-a-half tons of trash from 44 Connecticut beaches.

The group is encouraging participation at:

* New London’s Ocean Beach Park, 98 Neptune Ave, 10:00am – 11:30am

* New Haven’s Long Wharf Nature Preserve, 10:00am – 12:00pm

* Norwalk’s Oyster Shell Park, 9:30am – 12:00pm
