Deputy House Speaker Bob Godfrey, D-Danbury, a state lawmaker since 1989, has been named to lead the Council of State Governments’ Intergovernmental Affairs Committee. Godfrey, former national president of the 82-year-old federal and state-policy group, will concentrate on federal-relations policy in his new role. “The committee strives to interpret changing national conditions to prepare states for the future and to promote the sovereignty of the states and their role in the American federal system,” said a release from the council, for which Godfrey was national chairman in 2011.
