The panel appointed to review the salaries of elected state officials on Wednesday recommended 10-percent pay hikes for Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, constitutional officers and the General Assembly.
The little-known Commission on Compensation for Elected Officials made the decision during a late-afternoon meeting in the Legislative Office Building.
Whether the recommendations translate into bigger paychecks, though, is up to the General Assembly, which last voted itself a raise in 1998. Under state law, the commission makes salary recommendations to the Legislature in odd-numbered years.
Rank-and-file lawmakers are paid $28,000, plus expenses and mileage for the part-time legislative job, where committee chairmen and other leadership positions make a few thousand dollars more.
