HARTFORD – Opposition from gun enthusiasts was muffled Friday when the House and Senate voted overwhelmingly to confirm for Bridgeport representative Auden Grogins to a Superior Court judgeship.
Her nomination sailed through the House 125-18 and 30-4 in the Senate, after a half-hour debate in which supporters said her sponsorship of the General Assembly’s response to the Sandy Hook school massacre was representative of her district and not a manifestation of opposition to the Second Amendment right to own guns.
No opponents spoke in the House and of the 18 votes against her, 15 had won endorsements last fall from the NRA-based Connecticut Citizens Defense League.
Those western Connecticut House members who voted against the 52-year old lawyer included Rep. Cecilia Buck-Taylor, of New Milford, and freshmen representatives Ben McGorty of Shelton and Pam Staneski of Orange. Both Staneski and Buck-Taylor won CCDL endorsements.
