Hours after Gabby Giffords spoke against gun violence, domestic murder/suicide in Durham

Yesterday, former US Rep Gabby Giffords, seriously wounded in a 2011 shooting in Arizona, appeared in the Capitol to speak out against domestic violence. Less than five hours later, State Police responded to a murder suicide of a couple in Durham.

Here is the release:

“On March 17, 2015, at 7:36 p.m., State Police at Troop F received a 911 call reporting that two individuals were believed to be deceased in a residence at 73 Main Street in Durham. Troopers from Troop F, Durham Resident Trooper, and EMS responded to the scene.

Upon making entry into the home, the Troopers discovered two persons deceased inside the residence. EMS personnel pronounced the two people, a male and a female, deceased. Troopers also discovered the family dog dead outside of the residence. All three died from apparent gunshot wounds. The scene was secured and State Police Major Crime Detectives responded to conduct the investigation.

State Police Detectives processed the crime scene, gathering physical and forensic evidence. Detectives
did locate and seize a firearm near one of the deceased.

Preliminary findings of the State Police Detectives have determined that these two untimely deaths appear
to be a murder/suicide involving a firearm.

The office of the Chief States Medical Examiner will conduct a post mortem examination of the two
deceased to determine the manner and cause of both deaths. The deceased are identified as:

Terry Oakes Bourret DOB: 11/20/43
