Capitol eagle will fly again

eagle2Eric Connery, facilities administrator at the Capitol, says that the fallen brass eagle that landed in the north lawn yesterday afternoon will fly again atop the flag staff that displays the state colors high above the west entrance. He told the Blogster that the beast was likely original to the 1878 building. He said it was due for its annual inspection in the spring. Wednesday’s high winds sent it up, off and over the round finial at the very top of the pole. “We’ll repair it and put it back up there,” Connery said. The head of the hollow ornamental eagle, with it gold paint buffed to a faint memory from decades of weather, was crushed in its dive. (photo by Dixon)
