Klarides whacks “scorched-earth” Malloy over anti-GOP remarks via Buzzfeed

themisHARTFORD – House Republican Leader State. Rep. Themis Klarides, R-Derby, today whacked Gov. Dannel P. Malloy over anti-Republican remarks he made to the online Buzzfeed.

“No one in Connecticut is well served by a governor who embarks on a scorched-earth policy to the national media that casts Republicans in such a negative, slanted light and distorts every issue so completely as Gov. Malloy has,’’ Klarides said. “I would suggest he be ashamed but that apparently is not a quality he is remotely acquainted with.”

Malloy stirred up the pot with Buzzfeed yesterday, saying among other things “I think we need to speak to a broader audience than middle-age white men.” Here is the link to Buzzfeed: http://www.buzzfeed.com/evanmcsan/new-democratic-governors-chair-partys-priority-shoudnt-be-wi#.ajoljl8zA

“You put together that [the GOP] is the party that wants to control your body, wants you work 35 or 40 hours per week and live in poverty, and, by the way, doesn’t want you to have access to health care,” he said. “You put those three things together? That’s a pretty powerful argument.”

Klarides: “I am offended by his remarks on every level: as a woman, as Leader of the Republican House caucus and as someone who has worked hard to help working families and taxpayers by working to keep government out of their pocketbooks and create jobs. Gov. Malloy continues to make these offensive, over-the-top comments to the national press but knows he can’t get away with it in Connecticut.’’

For those of you keeping score at home, Malloy recently had a “show” lunch in the Capitol complex’s cafeteria with Klarides that was witnessed by a dozen reporters. She asked to help determine spending priorities in the upcoming two-year budget, as well as needed rescissions in the current $20-billion budget that ends June 30. A few hours after the lip-service lunch, Malloy released his list of cuts.
