With $191M deficit, Malloy orders $13.7 million in cuts

It doesn’t seem like more than a teaspoon scooped out of the bowl of red ink, but Gov. Dannel P. Malloy just ordered $13.7 million in cuts to the current budget that runs through June 30.

The deficit estimate had reached up to $191 million, but Comptroller Kevin Lembo pegs it at $172 million.

The larger reductions come from:

  • Office of Early Childhood – $5.8 million
  • UConn – $2 million
  • the UConn Health Center – $1 million
  • The Board of Regents for Higher Education – $1.5 million
